About
My name is Ryan Chan, and when I went to the movies as a kid, I would lose myself for an hour and a half in galaxies far, far away filled with amazing and uncanny characters I could only have imagined.
I thought movies were magic… and I still do.
Editing films and TV series that use VFX to tell larger-than-life stories has been the sandbox that I’ve been playing in for most of my career.
I’m an Emmy-winning Film and Television Editor that got my dream opportunity in 2003, when I was hired as an Assistant Editor on Robert Zemeckis’ The Polar Express. I went on to collaborate with Mr. Zemeckis on 9 feature films over a span of 20 years, editing on Welcome to Marwen in 2017, The Witches in 2020, and Here, which premieres later in 2024.
Working for two decades with a Director that loves to experiment with the latest technology has taught me how to stay focused on crafting emotional performances when the footage I have is often of actors in spandex suits or acting against tennis balls.
Whether it’s co-editing features with Robert Zemeckis or flying solo editing TV projects, I’ve spent my editing career using every trick up my sleeve to help people tell their stories. Just like magic.
